Profile : Dave Nolan, sculptor
Making the extraordinary out of the ordinary, Dave uses the technique of assemblage to transform overlooked objects into works of art that seem to take on a personality. The category of 'found object' art can take many forms. Dave's work will not strike you as simply more of what you have seen before.
By blending the hard edge of a steel gear, the soft color of driftwood, along with an occasional touch of bright color these sculptures are a pleasing mix of visual cues. But then you realize that you didn't see the half of what Dave has done - the grouping suddenly becomes a face or some other image on a completely different level beyond the parts he used. Then you are left with the alternating impressions of the individual items used, and that of the total composition.
